Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Guess What's Up? does and does not collect when you use the app or visit this website.
Brown Consulting LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Guess What's Up? mobile application and website. Guess What's Up? is a party guessing game for iPhone with tilt-based controls, a Kid Friendly deck filter, optional player or team names, a local scoreboard, anonymous gameplay analytics, local troubleshooting logs, and optional card feedback.
1. Information the app stores on your device
Guess What's Up? does not require an account. The app may store the following information locally on your device:
- Optional player or team names you type into the game
- Round results, including correct and passed card counts
- Scoreboard summaries and recent play history
- Cards you choose to block from future rounds on that device
- Game preferences, such as the selected deck filter and round duration
This information is stored locally so the game can show the scoreboard and make repeat rounds easier. We do not receive player or team names or your full local scoreboard unless you choose to send that information to us, for example in a support message.
2. Motion and orientation data
The app uses your device's motion and orientation sensors to detect when the phone is on a player's forehead and whether the player tilted up or down to pass or score a card. Motion data is processed on the device during gameplay. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or store raw motion sensor data on our servers.
3. Sounds and gameplay
Guess What's Up? generates and plays short game sounds for countdowns, correct answers, passes, and end-of-round feedback. These sounds are produced on the device and do not involve microphone access or audio recording.
4. Card feedback submissions
If you flag a card in the app and choose to submit feedback, the app sends a feedback report to our Vercel-backed Guess What's Up? web service. Card feedback is optional and is not required to play the game. A feedback report is sent only after you select a reason and tap Save Feedback.
A card feedback report may include:
- The card text, deck ID, and deck title
- The feedback reason you selected
- Whether you chose to block that card on your device
- The app version, build number, submission timestamp, and feedback event ID
We use card feedback to review, moderate, fix, and improve card decks and related gameplay quality. Card feedback does not include player or team names, installation IDs, Apple IDs, advertising IDs, raw motion sensor data, precise device location, contacts, microphone audio, photos, or account information. We do not use card feedback for advertising or tracking, and we do not sell it.
5. Anonymous gameplay analytics
Guess What's Up? may send anonymous round summaries to our Vercel-backed service after a round ends so we can understand which decks and cards are working well. Gameplay analytics are best effort and do not block gameplay or results if the network is unavailable.
An anonymous round summary may include:
- The deck and category IDs/titles, card count, and anonymous content fingerprint
- The selected round length and active seconds played
- Total correct and passed counts
- Cards shown during the round, active time spent on each card, whether each card was correct, passed, or unscored, and whether a shown card was hidden from future rounds
- The app version, build number, submission timestamp, and random round event ID
Gameplay analytics do not include player or team names, installation IDs, Apple IDs, advertising IDs, raw motion sensor data, precise device location, contacts, microphone audio, photos, or account information. We use these anonymous summaries in aggregate to measure gameplay frequency, improve deck quality, balance difficulty, and decide which cards or decks need review. A hidden-card selection is counted only as part of the anonymous round in which it occurred; it is not tied to a device or account identifier. We do not combine these summaries with data from other companies' apps or websites, use them for advertising, or share them with a data broker.
6. Controls
- Card feedback is user-initiated. You can play the game without submitting card feedback.
- Local troubleshooting information stays on your iPhone unless you explicitly choose Email Developer or Share Diagnostic Report from Privacy & Diagnostics.
- Anonymous gameplay summaries and privacy-filtered diagnostic reports do not include player or team names, advertising IDs, raw motion data, installation IDs, precise location, contacts, microphone audio, photos, or account information.
- You can use nicknames, initials, or team names instead of real names. You can delete local app data by clearing the scoreboard where available or deleting the app from your device.
7. Other information we may receive
We may receive limited information in these other situations:
- If you contact us for support, we receive the contact details and message content you choose to provide.
- If you use TestFlight or download the app from the App Store, Apple may provide aggregated analytics, crash reports, or diagnostic information according to your Apple device settings and Apple's policies.
- If you choose to email or share a diagnostic report, we receive the privacy-filtered troubleshooting information and written feedback you selected. Nothing is sent from the local troubleshooting log automatically.
- If you visit this website, Vercel and other hosting infrastructure may process basic request information such as IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and timestamps for security, debugging, and site delivery.
8. How we use information
We use information only to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve Guess What's Up?
- Review card feedback and improve, remove, or moderate card content
- Review anonymous deck and card performance in aggregate
- Respond to support requests
- Debug app problems that users explicitly report and website availability problems
- Protect the app, website, and users from abuse or security issues
9. Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share personal information with third parties for their own advertising or marketing. We may share limited information with service providers that help us operate the app or website, such as Apple for App Store and TestFlight distribution, Vercel for website, feedback, and analytics endpoint hosting, and Supabase for feedback and anonymous analytics storage. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, users, or services.
10. Children and family play
Guess What's Up? includes a Kid Friendly filter for family-friendly gameplay. The app is not designed to collect personal information from children. Children should use the app with permission and supervision from a parent or guardian, and should not submit real names or other personal information through support requests. If you believe a child provided personal information to us, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Your choices
- You can use nicknames, initials, or team names instead of real names.
- You can avoid sending card feedback by not submitting the feedback form.
- You decide whether to email or share a local diagnostic report.
- You can clear the local scoreboard in the app.
- You can delete local app data by deleting the app from your device.
- You can manage Apple analytics and crash sharing in your iOS settings.
- You can contact us at privacy@guesswhatsup.app with questions about app analytics, diagnostics, feedback, or deletion requests.
12. Data retention and security
Local scoreboard data remains on your device until you clear it or delete the app. Card feedback, anonymous gameplay summaries, and support messages are retained only as long as reasonably needed to review feedback, improve the app, respond to requests, keep records, or meet legal obligations. You can request deletion of submitted feedback by contacting us with enough information to identify it, such as the approximate submission date, card text, deck name, or feedback reason. Anonymous gameplay summaries do not include player or team names, so we may not be able to identify a specific anonymous round for deletion. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we use reasonable safeguards appropriate for the limited information we process.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the app changes. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and post the revised policy on this page.
